Bhaji is a famous North Indian sweet dish. It is made from gram flour, which is a fine-grained flour that is made from sunflower oil and water. This sweet, rich, and creamy dish is a favorite in many homes in India. It contains two types of flour; the common type, which is milled from corn or millet and slightly processed to become a very soft and flavorful wheat flour, and the refined or manufactured gram flour. The refined or manufactured flour often contains more calories than the natural flour because it is heated to a higher temperature and its texture is altered. The refined or manufactured flour contains mostly empty calories, such as sugar, salt, artificial flavor, and coloring.
Another type of healthy Indian food that is a staple food for south Indians is the white rice. Although the word ”rice” does not occur in the Hindi language, it is referred to as khadi in many regions. Often, when it is called shade, it is not actually white rice but brown rice.
